Mathew Aquilina is a registered Psychologist and Board Approved Supervisor. As Clinical Team Leader, Mathew provides clinical support and facilitates professional development of clinicians working with Gidget Foundation Australia.

Mathew has over 12 years' clinical experience working in not for profit and private settings with populations across the lifespan. In leadership roles, Mathew has been responsible for the establishment and implementation of rural and regional mental health services funded by the Department of Health and Aged Care, and has provided oversight and mentoring of multidisciplined team members. Mathew has joined Gidget Foundation Australia with a passion for perinatal and infant mental health, and the intersection with men’s mental health, having a strong interest in the role of fathers in perinatal period. Mathew is currently undertaking Higher Degree Research through the University of Wollongong focused on better understanding the role of couple-based and attachment-informed antenatal intervention for families.

Mathew has trained comprehensively in perinatal and infant mental health approaches through Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE) and the Perinatal Training Centre. Mathew is an accredited Circle of Security Parenting (COS-P) facilitator and Becoming Us parent education facilitator. Clinically, Mathew takes an integrative approach to his practice, with experience in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic therapy. He has a warm and conversational style and a strengths-based view of those he supports, working to build capacity and increase insight rather than focus on deficit or disorder.
