Clinical Psychologist - Start Talking Telehealth

Dr. Johann Dunne (she/her) is a Clinical Psychologist based in Melbourne. She has worked in various settings, including hospitals, community services, government, specialist services, and private practice across Ireland and Australia. Early in her career, she worked in child, adolescent, and family community mental health settings, as well as forensic environments. Johann developed an interest in perinatal mental health for both personal and professional reasons, recognising the profound opportunity for life-changing, meaningful early intervention during this period. She completed the Perinatal Workforce Development Program with Gidget Foundation Australia (GFA).

Johann offers a compassionate, warm, empowering, and collaborative approach, viewing the relationship she develops with clients as key to fostering change. She draws on a range of evidence-based approaches and tailors her methods to best meet each individual’s needs. Johann values an open, flexible approach to intervention, emphasising kindness, warmth, and a non-judgmental stance. Her therapeutic frameworks include Compassion-Focused Therapy, attachment-based practices (parent-child relationships), polyvagal practices, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as psychodynamic and interpersonal therapies. Johann works in a trauma-informed way.

Her professional interests include perinatal adjustment, anxiety and depression, early parenting, parent-infant relationships, and supporting couples as they adjust to life with a baby. She also provides support to those who have experienced pregnancy loss or who are struggling with conception and infertility. Johann is particularly interested in intergenerational trauma and its impact during the perinatal period. She loves helping families of all types survive and thrive during the early years of parenting, aiming to create a warm, safe environment where parents and young families can navigate their challenges and flourish.
