Briana is a journalist and the mother of two children with autism, and she is passionate about changing the way the media includes and represents people with disabilities. This passion led her to produce the award-winning Disability Reporting Handbook for Media Diversity Australia, where she is the Disability Affairs Officer. She was part of the small but committed News and Features team recognised at the 2023 and 2022 national Mumbrella awards for its work amplifying the voices of people with disabilities.
Briana established the first Western Sydney chapter of the Autism Community Network in 2015 and has spent years facilitating peer support and advocating for autistic people and their families. She has advised on national campaigns on how to better support autistic people within the health system and on communication matters. Briana has also conducted workshops for teachers, therapists, and first responders, along with advising organisations on how to use inclusive language and imagery.
